Morning Rituals to Keep Your Skin Healthy and Glowing

The key to a good complexion is a well-established skin care regimen. While you may be highly aware of the dangers of going to bed with makeup still applied, you may be neglecting the start of the day. Yes, good skin care is an all-day affair. So set that alarm clock a little earlier to allow you time to care for your skin. Doing the following things each morning results in skin that is not only glowing but healthier as well:

Do some physical activity

Exercise may be the last thing on your mind when you get up in the morning what with all the other things you have to do. But getting in some physical activity increases blood flow and leads to better circulation. Not only that, exercise is a known stress reducer. Your exercise routine shouldn’t even be excessive; a short one that gets your heart going is enough to keep you glowing all day.

Drink water

How many times have you heard or read about the importance of staying hydrated? Yes, water is important and it should be the first beverage you crave for in the morning rather than coffee. Drinking a lot of water prevents dehydration which bring with it skin dullness and dryness and even breakouts. Not only is water great for your skin, it’s beneficial for your overall well-being as well.

Wash your face

You may have just come from bed but bacteria and dirt can still get there. This is why it’s so important to wash your face. You can use an oil-based cleanser as this doesn’t dry out your skin. You can then wash that off with lukewarm water which also prevents your skin from drying out.

Do exfoliate

You don’t need to by a separate product to exfoliate: a simple cotton washcloth will do. This is the ideal choice because it doesn’t cause any irritation and it’s quite gentle and thus can be used every single day. What you do is use lukewarm water to dampen the washcloth then wring it so it’s not dripping. Rub the cloth in a circular motion on your face. Start near your nose then work outwards. Doing this removes dead skin cells and prevents puffiness.

After exfoliating, use the cleanser again. This helps make sure that all dead skin cells are removed. This time, use a cream cleanser and massage it in circular motion across your face. After that, rinse your face with lukewarm water.

Use a toner

This is particularly helpful if you have skin that is oily or prone to acne. A toner prevents the overproduction of oil and it also helps balance your skin. Make sure to choose a toner with an alcohol-free formula so you don’t dry out your skin. In addition, choose a toner with ingredients such as vitamin E, chamomile or hibiscus as those soothe the skin. Use a cotton ball to gently swipe – not scrub – the toner over your face.

Apply sunscreen

It doesn’t matter if you stay indoors all day, even just a little sun damage can lead to skin issues like wrinkles. Choose a product that’s at least SPF 15.

Do moisturize

You can use a moisturizer with SPF so you don’t have to buy too many products. If not, use one to make sure you’ve got glowing skin for the entire day.
